Framework for the regulation of those on the Early Years and Childcare Registers

This framework should be read in conjunction with the Early Years Foundation Stage and the regulations. The framework has two purposes:

• it aims to inform providers and their representative groups about how we carry out regulatory work
• it describes the main elements of the regulation system set out in the Childcare Act 2006.

The Act introduced two registers for those providing childcare. This includes early years provision for children in the Early Years Foundation Stage: children aged from birth until the 31 August following their fifth birthday.
